Accord ing to WHO it is estimated that 90% of schoolchildren in the world and most adults have suffered dental caries while dental and oral health in Indonesia is a community disease suffered by 38.5% of Indonesian population. Rikesdas data in 2007, especially the prevalence of caries in children aged 5-9 years that is as much as 7.3% and children aged 10-14 years as much as 4.6%. Children at the age of 8-10 have a high risk of dental caries, because at that age children have a habit of eating a cariogenic snack. Curogenic foods such as chocolate, candy, bread and milk are well liked by many elementary schoolchildren, because they have attractive colors, reasonable prices and delicious flavors. These conditions need to get special attention, because at this age the child is undergoing the process of growing flowers. This situation will affect the development of dental health in adulthood. This study aims to determine the image of dental caries remains in children who have a habit of consuming kariogenik snacks in SDN Wanakerta 4 Cibatu-Garut. The research method used by the researcher is descriptive with cross sectional study design.
The results showed caries prevalence in SDN Wanakerta 4 students (68.85%). The DMF-T index was 37 (60.6%) of the respondents with very low criteria, 14 (22.9%) were low criteria, and 10 (16.4%) were medium criteria. While the average frequency of most cariogenic snacks (60.65%). To better remind students of the importance of maintaining dental and oral health the role of parents and teachers is needed so that students can control the consumption of cariogenic foods and further improve the maintenance of dental and mouth health.
